Constructing a smart destination framework: A destination marketing organization perspective

Smart destinations have emerged as a means of integrating physical and technological infrastructure to create seamless experiences for tourists improve the quality life residents. However, operationalization smart destination concept, especially roles functions Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), remain poorly understood. This study uses interviews with experts in marketing, place management technology, alongside analysis Systems (DMSs) identify how DMOs can lead facilitate development effective governance innovations. The data are used examine several key themes including: potential ‘smart vision’ destination; contributions DMO leadership strategies; utility DMSs; involvement stakeholders; supporting pillars information technology infrastructure, sustainability, livability, foundations development. article concludes by providing conceptual framework that help comprehend evaluate both components their implementation management. • Presents conceptualizing evaluating Destinations. Encompasses IT, e-governance, livability domains practice. Uses multimethod strategy assess initiatives USA, UK, Asia. Examines Organization Management System roles. Identifies value facilitating transition.
